Scholarships (toward registration and travel cost) to participate in Structures Congress, April 9-11, 2025 in Phoenix, and get involved in SEI are provided by the SEI Futures Fund in collaboration with the ASCE Foundation. The intent is for recipients to connect and experience the value of membership at the conference, with the view to continue membership and involvement in SEI programs, committees, chapters, etc. Student membership to ASCE/SEI is free, as well as the first year after graduation.
Student Scholarship
Eligibility: Must be a current full-time student (undergrad or grad student enrolled in civil engineering or similar program), a current SEI member (one Institute is free with ASCE membership), and have not attended Structures Congress previously.

Young Professional Scholarship
Eligibility:
- Must be a young professional (35 years or younger) SEI member in industry or academia with plans to become more involved with SEI. Up to 5 scholarships are available for full-time young professional teaching faculty through age 40.
- Limited to one time per recipient
- Students are not eligible

SEI Future Leader Scholarship
This scholarship is designed to support continued involvement of both students and young professionals who are interested in actively participating in SEI initiatives and pursuing leadership opportunities.
To be eligible for this scholarship you must be a current student or young professional (35 years or younger), a current member of SEI (free to add the institute to your ASCE membership), and interested and able to participate in-person in the technical session titled “Meet the Future of Structural Engineering” at Structures Congress 2025. The scholarship recipients will present their response to the question: “What is the most important skill that you believe should be included (or emphasized) in current education curriculum to prepare structural engineering professionals for 2035?”
Preference will be given to applicants who have previously received a student or young professional scholarship as well as those who have previously attended Structures Congress. Past recipients of the Future Leader Scholarship are no eligible.
Up to twelve scholarships are available for 2025 made possible by the SEI Futures Fund to provide increased participation and leadership opportunities. Scholarship recipients will be formally mentored by SEI Members while preparing for their presentation for Structures Congress to increase their technical communication and networking skills. Ideally, these mentors will be members of an SEI committee which the scholarship recipient is interested in joining or learning more about.
The goals of this program are to:
- Encourage students and young professionals to continue to attend Structures Congress and maintain an active role in SEI.
- Enhance the technical communication skills of student and young professionals.
- Facilitate discussions on the future of the structural engineering education and the profession.
- Provide an opportunity for students and young professionals to network with leaders in the structural engineering community.
